FAQs

Employment law — frequently asked questions

How long do I have to bring an unfair dismissal claim?

Currently 3 months less 1 day from the date your employment ended. From 1 October 2026, this is extending to 6 months less 1 day for claims where the time limit starts on or after that date — but time limits are strict either way, so it's best to get advice as soon as possible. See Acas's guidance or ask us to confirm your specific deadline.

Do you act for employers or employees?

Both — we advise employees pursuing tribunal claims and settlement agreements, and help employers defend claims or put policies in place to avoid disputes.

Will my case go to a tribunal hearing?

Many claims settle before a hearing through Acas early conciliation or direct negotiation. We'll always explore the options that avoid a hearing where that's in your interest.

What does this cost?

See our fees page for typical employment tribunal costs and what's included.
